Born in Rome on 30th August 1942. He attended the   Naval Academy at Livorno from 1961 al 1965 obtaining the rank of Officer of Italian Navy Engineering Corp. Full honours graduated and doctorate in ‘Naval Architecture & Mechanical Engineering’ at the University of Trieste. He obtained the “top level  master” (PhD) in Naval Architecture by the IT Navy Project Committee in 1974, and the diploma as EDP Analyst in 1976. In 1974 he was awarded with the Naval Architecture Chair being lectured of the University of Genoa. Awarded as Knight of Italian Republic Merit Order“. In the IT Navy active service he spent ten years on board of “First Line” combatant vessels, three of  which as Chief Engineer; as Project Manager for basic hull structure and outfitting work, attended to the construction and sea trials of the guided missile cruiser “Vittorio Veneto”. Ascenzi was involved as NA designer in  the hull and propeller design and hydrodynamic experiment tests both into the Cavitation Tunnel and Towing Tank of the IT Navy “Lupo” and “Maestrale”  frigate class, the “Audace” destroyer  class and the “Sauro”  submarine class. Ascenzi put especial attention to the problematic encountered in the propulsion, manoeuvrability and seakeeping.  For applied research Ascenzi designed, and carried out the data processing system for the cavitation tunnel of “CEIMM”, IT Navy Experiment Works in Rome and defined the testing procedures and post data analysis for true scale correlation; for this purpose he developed a programme for the research on the transmission of noise radiated by propellers and possible methods of reducing this phenomenon, paying special attention on blade cavitation.  Chief of  the Naval Technical Services of the Italian Custom Police “Guardia di Finanza”  introducing a modernisation of its naval fleet integrated in a Aero-naval Force Group.

He retired from active service in 1984 with the rank of Commander.

In his private design activity he conceived and built the patrol vessels class "Bigliani" and class "Corrubia" for the “Guardia di Finanza” and several other high speed crafts propelled by supercavitating surface propellers.  He was consultant of  the "Oto Breda" in the development and the experimentation tests of the small calibre naval weapon systems.

He has designed and constructed many sailing pleasure vessels for companies including "Perini Navi", "Ortona Navi", " Wally Yachts" and fast open cruisers for the "Cantieri di Baia", managing the production process and the budget.

He built up and managed the technical structure of the “Cantieri Navali Seaborne” Srl in order to design and build the mega yachts commercialised by “Monaco Yachting and Technologies S.A.M”.

To day he is the President of the  "SERIM", a Society dedicated to Designing Engineering, Planning and Production Services for ship construction , constituted in order to value and to exploit  the professional experience achieved in more than 40 years of working for naval design and construction.
